Early one April morning in 2024, I spotted this family of wood ducks swimming across Greenbelt Lake. When they paddled in front of the reflection of a bright, rounded tree trunk, it looked to me like a protective aura surrounding them. I was glad to see many wood ducks return to the lake in 2025—hopefully the same family, all grown up.
